ABOUT ONSASE

"My name is Onsase (on-SAH-say) and I am an artist in Kenya. I am a person who is positive about every aspect of my life. There are many things I love to do, to see and to experience. I like to think, dream, talk and listen. I like to see the sunrise in the morning, and the moonlight at night. I like to gaze into the clouds in the sky with an open mind.

I've never gotten any training in making art, but I've always dreamed of being an artist. Actually I dropped out of school at the end of my primary (elementary) education because I had no support. I started taking care of myself when I was just 14 years old. I tried to press on through life's ups and downs because of the dream I had to be an artist since I was a child. At 16 years old I decided to begin sharing my artwork, but I had no place to start. With no support, I took to living a homeless life on the streets where life got so much harder. However, it was there that I became friends with so many people. One day one of my friends told me that with the talent I had, I shouldn't be dying on the streets. That's when I found a young lady who understood my cries. She tried to help me until we found a place where we started a small business. Though I have experienced so many challenges, I am thankful to have been given the strength to make it through.

I'm 29 now and I'm married to a beautiful woman. We have a seven year old little girl. I feel like I have plenty of room to grow in my artistry, but I am blessed by everyone who appreciates and enjoys my work so far. I still have a big dream to create even more amazing art, and thanks to people like you, it's still alive!

If you are interested in possibly purchasing one of my paintings, please contact Jamie through our Contact page. He will work with me to get you a painting you will be able to cherish." - Onsase
